Welcome to The Web Site of Marine Corps League Intracoastal Detachment #1058
And they were called Marines! “Be it Resolved That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two lieutenant-colonels, two majors and other officers, as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates as with other battalions, that particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to offices, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve for and during the present war with Great Britain and the Colonies; unless dismissed by Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the First and Second Battalions of Marines.” And with those words, a legacy was created that has endured for more than 230 years. Some 148 years later, under the direction of then Commandant Major General John A. Lejeune and approved by an Act of the 75th Congress the Marine Corps League Came into existence. While I suspect that the first Marine Corps League Detachment was formed as more of a drinking club, the League has evolved into an international association that provides camaraderie and support to Marines and Corpsmen Past and Present with Detachments in such far flung places like Okinawa and American Samoa. Intracoastal Detachment 1058 had its humble beginnings in 2000 when founding Commandant Robert Powers “Cajoled” 20 other Marines in the area to charter a Detachment. Since those early days, our detachment has swelled in ranks to well over a hundred members. Our membership, like the Marine Corps itself is diverse and includes Marines who have served honorably from the early days of WWII to Present. Intracoastal Detachment 1058 meets every third Thursday of the month 1930 at American Legion Post 142, 171 SW 2nd Street, Pompano Beach , FL 33060. 954-942-2448. In addition to our regular Meetings, our Detachment hosts an annual Birthday Ball, Toys for Tots Golf Charity Golf Tournament and an annual Comedy Show which raises funds to support the various Marine related charities that we support. If you were a Marine or Corpsman, I invite you to come join us, hoist a round of cheer and get involved with some of Americas finest. Semper Fidelis
